Everything You Need to Know About Butane Torch Lighters

If you are into smoking cigars, you would probably know that the quality of butane you use in your lighter is directly responsible for the taste of your cigar. Choosing the best butane is important because apart from its taste, it affects the lighter’s performance and longevity.

Cigar enthusiasts are always talking about torch lighters because the ultra-hot jet flames are very effective for toasting and lighting premium cigars. It’s also useful for performing touch-ups so that it burns evenly from start to finish.

For all these reasons, using high-quality butane is important, even if you want to go for a soft touch flame instead of a torch lighter.

What is Lighter Butane?

Butane, discovered in the early 20th century, is a highly flammable, colorless, and odorless liquified gas. Since its discovery, it’s been used in a number of consumer and industrial applications due to its high flammability, low production cost, and versatility.

The temperature you can reach with butane lighters can be as high as 2600 Fahrenheit, which is high enough to melt aluminum and copper. Both disposable and refillable lighters use butane. In a butane lighter, butane is stored in a pressurized chamber which is released in a narrow stream and can be ignited by striking flint or a piezoelectric crystal. The spark from the splint or crystal causes the butane to ignite when the gas is released.

Other lighter fuels like zippo fluid are not the same as butane. It does not burn clean and can hamper the taste of a cigar.

How to Judge Good Butane?

Good butane burns clean, doesn’t clog the jets in torch lighters, or doesn’t interfere with the taste of the cigar. It means that the maximum number of impurities or unwanted contaminants have been removed from the finished product.

Do not rely on unrefined butane, which is easily available at the nearest store. For a great experience with your cigar, you need to buy torch lighters that use high-quality butane. Unrefined butane will corrode the components of your lighter, clog the jets, and your lighter will wear away much earlier than it should. It will also make your cigar taste bad.

Conclusion

In conclusion, we can say that you need to invest in a good quality butane lighter if you want to have a great experience with smoking your cigar. Investing in a poor-quality lighter will inevitably cause a not-so-great smoking experience. Many high-quality butane lighters are quintuple refined today, and you need to check if the butane used in a lighter is refined or not.
